Top 11 Most Used Items as a First Time Mom

Building your registry is beyond overwhelming when there are gizmos and gadgets for literally every single aspect of having a baby. 10000% recommend building your Baby Registry on Amazon because lets face, it you are going to panic buy a lot of things and returns with Amazon are easiest.

As a first time mom who had never been around babies before these were the items that I could not have functioned without in those first days.

  1. Baby Lounger
    • This is by far our most used baby item- we use it every single day, multiple times a day. It provides a soft spot to put her down and a place she can stay without worrying if she will roll off the couch.
    • Pro Tip: we received the Snuggle Me brand as a gift but it Amazon looks to have the same thing for half the cost.
  2. Mama Earth Butter
    • This I now purchase this for every mom-to-be because I think it saved my nursing journey. Those chapped blistered nipples in the first days of breast feeding would have put me off continuing if I didn’t have this MIRACLE cream.
  3. Boppy Nursing Pillow
    • Another thing I use every day for breastfeeding, bottle feeding, guests holding her and even for a little supported tummy-time.
  4. Nursing pads
    • I had this in my return pile because I thought I didn’t need them. Then my let down came in. Get ’em- you’ll need them. Save your shirts and bras.
  5. Owlet
    • I sleep so soundly since getting this without checking if the baby breathing every few minutes. This monitors the baby’s oxygen and pulse to make sure they are alright while asleep and will go off if either vital is our of normal range. Although it is pricy its been worth every penny to for the peace of mind that she is safe while sleeping.
    • Pro Tip: You can purchase it with the owlet monitor to be able to view their vitals and see them on camera in the app OR for a more budget friendly option you can just get the sock. This will still allow you to still monitor their vitals through the app then can purchase a separate cheaper monitor to watch her.
  6. Baby Monitor
    • Being able to check on the baby without needing to get up has saved us many night of getting up. When we first brought her home we thought every peep was her waking up and would get up and rock her. The night vision camera let us see when the baby is actually asleep and merely grunting as part of active sleep vs needing us. ALL of us sleep better now.
  7. Silverettes
    • Again, I used this with the nipple butter, especially in those early days when your nipples are going throughhhh it getting adjusted to nursing. Healed me in just a few days.
  8. Bottle rack
    • We actually returned our sterilizer we got as a gift because it was just too much counter space that we did not have. This rack is cheap, compact and gets the job done. The tops pockets are great for the small pump parts and the vertical pegs create enough slots for items without taking up the entire counter.
    • Pro Tip: IFFF you want to get a sterilizer get one that sterilizes, washes AND is a dryer or its not worth your time/money and is easier to hand wash. The moms of the internet recommend Baby Breeza Bottle Washer Pro
  9. Nightgowns
    • When we were up every hour those first few days and still learning what the different newborn cries mean, it was a God-send to not have to fuss with putting legs in an out of pjs/pants to see if that cry meant diaper. Not to mention they are adorable.
  10. Swaddles velco muslim
    • A good nights sleep for baby is a good night sleep for you. When we first brought our baby home home we liked using the muslim swaddles because they were so soft and fit our baby best but as she got stronger the velco ones was easier to put/keep her in.
    • Pro Tip- the Muslim swaddles can double as a nursing cover.
  11. Bottle Warmer
    • This is the thing all of my mothers generation said was pointless but its been great. No worrying about her milk being too hot or cold and it heats up by the time we get her changed which makes our night routine seamless. Perhaps frivolous but it just makes life easier.
