Sick of feeling sick
Nothing says welcome to motherhood like not being able to eat, drink, breathe or exist without waves of nausea and vomiting. We collected the best hacks from moms on how to beat the nausea.
Key notes
- Products that Moms recommend – see step 2
Step 1: SMALL and Frequent meals
The goal is to never let yourself get too hungry or too full. Too much hunger = nausea, too full = vomiting. Small meals of whatever you can take in are key.
Bland foods will be your best friends in early days. Try plain bread, saltines, toast, and oyster crackers. Anything you can get down and keep down is good.
DO NOT worry about a balanced diet- you’re just trying to survive here. Any meal is a win. Do make sure you are taking your prenatal though.
You need to stay hydrated during this time, ESPECIALLY if you’re getting sick. One of the ways we recommend keeping your electrolytes in balance is using a Hydration Mix.
Step 2: Try these random hacks moms swear by to keep nausea at bay
- Pregnancy Pops – these little candies work to relieve- make sure you get these ones that have vitamin b6 in them.
- Sea Bands – wristbands that work through acupressure to relieve nausea
- Sour Candy- moms have said any sour coated candy from sour patch kids, sour skittles to warheads have helped them get relief.
- Ginger Tea or Ginger Candy– either form gives you the natural anti-nausea properties from ginger
- Alcohol Pads – old nursing trick for when you’re in a pinch and need to relieve nausea- take a wiff of the alcohol pad. Other people have said lemons have a similar effect.
Step 3: Get a prescription from your doctor if needed
At the end of the day, if none of these help don’t hesitate to tell your doctor that you need medication. They can prescribe many things that will help you to stay functioning.
Lastly, just know each day that you get through is one day closer to being nausea free. Good luck mama.
